My experience on running my First Ever SF Tourney

I recently ran my first SF4 tourney last July 21, 2013. Unfortunately, many 'expected' contestants were no shows because of various albeit bogus reasons (had other things to do, rain, didn't know where to go,
etc.) but nevertheless, we pushed through with the tourney.

We had 8 players joining in and as usual, double elimination brackets were used. The variety of characters used in said tourney was a wonderful sight  (most of that I can attribute that to Francis, though...using a buttload of characters lolz.) because I don't know about you but SF4 is all about the matchups. This is what I was also told to expect (and enjoy) in SF tourneys, the chance to see the combination of theory and experience and what people do in real pressure situations. Sure, It's easy to apply the safe jumps and option selects in casuals but seeing them in action in tourneys is a different thing. Actual tech being used. It also goes to show how much a person knows the game and what he'll do to counter the opponent.

It also shows you how well a person can adjust, adapt and control his playstyle. If there was ever a game that would show you how much a person can drastically change his playstyle in a heartbeat, Street Fighter would  be on top of that list. It is interesting to note that the winner of said tournament, Marcky, had to fight his way up from being put into loser's bracket first round. That's quite an impressive feat.

Seth Killian said it best: "One of the keys to winning at the tournament level is to do something surprising in order to put the other player in an unfamiliar situation, and then capitalize on that confusion. The best players are the ones that can recover from those situations, and begin to fight back immediately without losing their cool."

Overall, It was a great tourney. I'll try my best to run some more in the future. I just hope the community tries to get involved more.

Peace Out.
