First MVC3 Tourney

On June 26, 2010, I went to Cebu for my first Marvel Vs Capcom 3 Tourney. I was invited by one of Cebu's best players (Alex) about a week earlier and I happily accepted. I was hoping to bring best buddy Nino but he had an important matter to attend to so I went alone.

The trip to Cebu didn't take very long but the problem was during docking. It took a little longer than expected and when I was heading to the venue, it rained a little so I had to wait it out.
After all the hubbub, I arrived late at Emall and they have already started!Fortunately, they were will still doing eliminations so I was still allowed to register (Thanks Sir!). I also met with a good friend(Ego). He held on to my personal belongings during the tourney.
FUN FACT: Ego works at Emall but I'm not saying where.

Aside from the MVC3 Tourney, there was also a SSFIV:AE Tourney but it won't start until 2PM. I would have loved to join but since I'm still learning the changes of AE and I'm planning to shift from Dudley to Makoto, I decided not to sign up. What's funny though was that Alex arrived much, much later than me for the MVC3 tourney and he wasn't able to join us but he joined the AE tourney. Shoutouts to your godlike Yang dude. hehe.

If I remember correctly, there were 18 of us in elims. 16 would go through to the tournament proper. You needed at least 5 wins to qualify. Local heavyweights Jan,William, and Swaki were in the tourney as well as the "GirlPower" peepz(Nhexie, Kim to name a few.) Since I used a different control scheme, they decided to let me play through all of the participants in one sitting. WTF?! I was so surprised with this method but I had to agree because this was done in order to save time and so we could start the tourney earlier.

And then, I was slaughtered. hehe. I admit though if I had just arrived earlier, I would have been able to have more time to get used to there sticks. Emall MVC3 Sticks have an American Layout and what looked like a Korean Stick, whereas I was used to the Madcatz Design. The buttons were too far away and I just kept dropping combos because the stick felt awkward to me. I also could not decide which characters to use. I was so sure I would stick to Wesker/Tron/Doom but lo and behold, almost everyone had a Wolvie or a Maggy. My Wesker at point just couldn't keep up with the competition so I had to switch out with Wolvie (and sometimes, Zero) and ultimately dropping Tron because I wasn't doing anything right with her . Speaking of competition, I wasn't able to gauge anyone up because everyone just decided to beat the crap out of me (And no, I'm not salty. I'm just saying it as it is. :) ) Thankfully, I was still able to grab 5 wins to qualify then we went to break.

After the break, the tournament proper started. My first opponent was Kim who had a Ryu in his team. On my experience, I haven't faced a lot of Ryu's so I don't know how to handle him. I was so confused on how to handle his LK Tatsu-X23 Ankle Slice ambiguous crossup that I ended up at Loser's bracket after three fights. At Loser's I faced William who also had a Wolvie. We ended up having an exciting mirror match but ultimately, his was more hard-hitting and I was eliminated from there.

After that, I stayed until around Semi-finals and I went to get some Angry Birds plush dolls and talk with Ego for awhile. I decided to leave early so I could a grab a good meal, a copy of MK9 and catch the last trip home. Overall, I had a good time and it was a good experience for me. I thank everyone and hopefully, I can attend some more. Marvel Madness!

Peace Out.
