First MVC3 Tourney

On June 26, 2010, I went to Cebu for my first Marvel Vs Capcom 3 Tourney. I was invited by one of Cebu's best players (Alex) about a week earlier and I happily accepted. I was hoping to bring best buddy Nino but he had an important matter to attend to so I went alone.

The trip to Cebu didn't take very long but the problem was during docking. It took a little longer than expected and when I was heading to the venue, it rained a little so I had to wait it out.
After all the hubbub, I arrived late at Emall and they have already started!Fortunately, they were will still doing eliminations so I was still allowed to register (Thanks Sir!). I also met with a good friend(Ego). He held on to my personal belongings during the tourney.
FUN FACT: Ego works at Emall but I'm not saying where.

Aside from the MVC3 Tourney, there was also a SSFIV:AE Tourney but it won't start until 2PM. I would have loved to join but since I'm still learning the changes of AE and I'm planning to shift from Dudley to Makoto, I decided not to sign up. What's funny though was that Alex arrived much, much later than me for the MVC3 tourney and he wasn't able to join us but he joined the AE tourney. Shoutouts to your godlike Yang dude. hehe.

If I remember correctly, there were 18 of us in elims. 16 would go through to the tournament proper. You needed at least 5 wins to qualify. Local heavyweights Jan,William, and Swaki were in the tourney as well as the "GirlPower" peepz(Nhexie, Kim to name a few.) Since I used a different control scheme, they decided to let me play through all of the participants in one sitting. WTF?! I was so surprised with this method but I had to agree because this was done in order to save time and so we could start the tourney earlier.

And then, I was slaughtered. hehe. I admit though if I had just arrived earlier, I would have been able to have more time to get used to there sticks. Emall MVC3 Sticks have an American Layout and what looked like a Korean Stick, whereas I was used to the Madcatz Design. The buttons were too far away and I just kept dropping combos because the stick felt awkward to me. I also could not decide which characters to use. I was so sure I would stick to Wesker/Tron/Doom but lo and behold, almost everyone had a Wolvie or a Maggy. My Wesker at point just couldn't keep up with the competition so I had to switch out with Wolvie (and sometimes, Zero) and ultimately dropping Tron because I wasn't doing anything right with her . Speaking of competition, I wasn't able to gauge anyone up because everyone just decided to beat the crap out of me (And no, I'm not salty. I'm just saying it as it is. :) ) Thankfully, I was still able to grab 5 wins to qualify then we went to break.

After the break, the tournament proper started. My first opponent was Kim who had a Ryu in his team. On my experience, I haven't faced a lot of Ryu's so I don't know how to handle him. I was so confused on how to handle his LK Tatsu-X23 Ankle Slice ambiguous crossup that I ended up at Loser's bracket after three fights. At Loser's I faced William who also had a Wolvie. We ended up having an exciting mirror match but ultimately, his was more hard-hitting and I was eliminated from there.

After that, I stayed until around Semi-finals and I went to get some Angry Birds plush dolls and talk with Ego for awhile. I decided to leave early so I could a grab a good meal, a copy of MK9 and catch the last trip home. Overall, I had a good time and it was a good experience for me. I thank everyone and hopefully, I can attend some more. Marvel Madness!

Peace Out.

Busy Busy Days ahead...

I'll be gone for awhile as I'll be doing a few things by next week. I'll be attending my first MVC3 Tourney in Cebu tomorrow (hope I'll do good), I have a few articles to finish up and I'm also going to the lab with Mortal Kombat 9 if I ever get a hold my own copy.

I'll be back with results from the tourney(maybe some shots as well), a few great items I bought online and my first impressions of MK9. Till then, keep safe and keep rockin.

Peace Out.

Life with Imaginary 1-ups #13

*I dream about arcade sticks that are indestructable and have awesome precision.

*My sister has awesome hand-eye coordination. One time I had this friend who had great SNES games like Mario Kart and Kirby All Stars. Problem was, his cartridges were from Japan which meant they had no holes at the back and my SNES wasn't compatible with them because mine was of the North American Design (If you aren't familiar with this, feel free to Google or look at the differences at the SNES Wiki page) but I had a plan. After much begging, he agreed to let
me borrow his games and I had my sister drill holes into them so that we can play them. When I returned them, it took him about two months to notice that there where holes in his games.

*I had this friend who borrowed Disc 4 of my Legend of Dragoon because hisdisc was broken. Now, bear in mind, I still haven't reached that part of the game as I was still stuck at Disc 2 but I lent it to him anyway because I "trusted" him. (so, so wrong...) When I was done with Disc 2 I asked for my disc back but he broke it as well. To this day, I don't know how Legend of Dragoon
ends. And yes, we're not friends anymore.

-Marvel VS Capcom 3 has eaten a LOT of me and my ex-gf's game time. We kept practicing with Mags ROM combo. We've become so addicted to it that we made Magneto's "You are Defeated!" from his Level 3 Gravity Squeeze our catchphrase.

-When I was old enough and started to grow a beard, I bought my first pack of cigarettes. Now I don't smoke. I just bought them for a friend and to I wanted to see if I looked old enough to buy a pack of cigarettes.

-One of my biggest pet peeves is when people say that Chun Li is just a rip-off of Ling Xiayou, I just can't resist the need to explain that Chun Li of Street Fighter was released as one of the first ever digital female fighting game characters introduced Street Fighter II: The World Warrior way before Ling Xiayou of Tekken even existed.

25 Manners Every Kid Should Have

I'm not really sure what my reason and motivation is for posting this topic here (reference, maybe?) but I'm posting it anyway. It is said that if you reinforce these manners on kids, they'll grow up to be polite, kind, well-liked children. Credit goes to David Lowry, Ph.D.

Manner #1
When asking for something, say "Please."

Manner #2

When receiving something, say "Thank you."

Manner #3
Do not interrupt grown-ups who are speaking with each other unless there is an emergency. They will notice you and respond when they are finished talking.

Manner #4

If you do need to get somebody's attention right away, the phrase "excuse me" is the most polite way for you to enter the conversation.

Manner #5

When you have any doubt about doing something, ask permission first. It can save you from many hours of grief later.

Manner #6

The world is not interested in what you dislike. Keep negative opinions to yourself, or between you and your friends, and out of earshot of adults.

Manner #7

Do not comment on other people's physical characteristics unless, of course, it's to compliment them, which is always welcome.

Manner #8

When people ask you how you are, tell them and then ask them how they are.

Manner #9

When you have spent time at your friend's house, remember to thank his or her parents for having you over and for the good time you had.

Manner #10

Knock on closed doors -- and wait to see if there's a response -- before entering.

Manner #11

When you make a phone call, introduce yourself first and then ask if you can speak with the person you are calling.

Manner #12

Be appreciative and say "thank you" for any gift you receive. In the age of e-mail, a handwritten thank-you note can have a powerful effect.

Manner #13

Never use foul language in front of adults. Grown-ups already know all those words, and they find them boring and unpleasant.

Manner #14

Don't call people mean names.

Manner #15

Do not make fun of anyone for any reason. Teasing shows others you are weak, and ganging up on someone else is cruel.

Manner #16

Even if a play or an assembly is boring, sit through it quietly and pretend that you are interested. The performers and presenters are doing their best.

Manner #17

If you bump into somebody, immediately say "Excuse me."

Manner #18

Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze, and don't pick your nose in public.

Manner #19

As you walk through a door, look to see if you can hold it open for someone else.

Manner #20

If you come across a parent, a teacher, or a neighbor working on something, ask if you can help. If they say "yes," do so -- you may learn something new.

Manner #21

When an adult asks you for a favor, do it without grumbling and with a smile.

Manner #22

When someone helps you, say "thank you." That person will likely want to help you again. This is especially true with teachers!

Manner #23

Use eating utensils properly. If you are unsure how to do so, ask your parents to teach you or watch what adults do.

Manner #24

Keep a napkin on your lap; use it to wipe your mouth when necessary.

Manner #25

Don't reach for things at the table; ask to have them passed.

Peace Out

Revisiting: Final Fantasy...ALMOST all of them

The original Final Fantasy debuted 22 years ago. The long-running RPG is one of the very few videogame series to have been made for more than two decades. Looking at it's history, It's shocking to think that Final Fantasy debuted as a last ditch effort by developer Square, which was going bankrupt at that time, and considered that this would be their last game, hence why it's called “final fantasy.” Thankfully, it struck gold and it's been here ever since.

What I've always loved about the series' is that it keeps changing. No two chapters are exactly the same (minus the spin-offs of course). One's theme is a post-apocalyptic future wherein the heroes do their best to make ends meet while one's theme revovles around an ongoing war and it's true purpose. Each one has a unique and enjoyable experience.

Another thing I love about the FF series is that even though each game presents different timelines, characters and storylines, it's core fundamentals is intact and very consistent. No matter which world it may be, you'll still find the usual Potion, Hi-Potion, Fire, Ice, Ifrit, Bahamut in that world. No matter which character you'll be controlling, you'll always be reminded that you are in the FF universe( or multiverse). Speaking of characters, the characters themselves are what make FF special. From Luneth to Lightning, everyone always has a backstory that may (or may not) push you to play more to find out who's who and what they are after. What also makes FF so lovable is that you know you're gonna go spend a lot of man hours trying to get that ultimate weapon or obtain that powerful spell, and when you do achieve that, it gives you a certain amount of satisfaction that just makes you say yeah, I have Ultima now!

I am a huge fan of the series for those reasons I've given, though I'm much less so now. I think it's decreasing because the games have gotten bad (but not awful) in terms of gameplay mechanics and the script for the games which was once so engrossing, now just feels sort of arbitrary; the combat seems more repetitive than strategic; cut scenes are all 'too' much of everything now (too long, too flashy, etc.) and the epic scope of the games now just feels long and dragging.

I have a lot of fond memories of the series particularly of VII and XI and I still love the Final Fantasies I've played in the past couple of years but I only have a handful of free time these days and if I'm going to play a game for gazillions of hours, it had better be the best game for my time and money. And right now at it's current state (XIII), Final Fantasy doesn't make that list anymore but I've not lost hope with the series, XIV is just around the corner...and I'm hoping for the best, with trusted sword in hand.

Peace Out.

A Surprisingly Well Conditioned T6 Machine Arrives

As the title says, A new Tekken 6 machine arrived earlier this week and the surprising part, it's at ICM WOF. Even more surprising, it's well conditioned. Judging from the language of the system, it seems it came from Hong Kong.

It's a Back to Back Cabinet and costs 15 pesos for each play. Our old cards won't work because of compatibility issues but I think the management are selling cards of their own.
As with the hardware, the screen looks good. The sticks are surprisingly sturdy and responsive, let's just hope that they keep an eye on this machine and they won't let kids play tug of war with the sticks. Overall, it's a good machine.

Dorya! Peace Out.

Drug Or Pokemon Quiz!

Over the past few years, Pokemon names have gotten, well, weird. Most of them sound like drugs nowadays.

If you think you know all the Pokemon and can differentiate them from certain drugs, then give it a try with this link.

I scored a 32/40. Stupid Vibrava.

Life with Imaginary 1-ups #11

*One of the most annoying things I deal with at most game shops is when a sales lady/dude approaches me and they immediately offer the newest game. For my counter attack, I usually do:
Method A: Ask them what they know about the game. That usually leaves thunderstruck but if that doesn't work I go...
Method B: Ask them to get the game and leave immediately without waiting for them. Douches.

*I've rediscovered and started improving my skills in Photoshop. I've also said goodbye to good, long hours of sleep.

*Recently I was rummaging through our attic and I found some of my old drawings as a kid.
Brings a tear to my eye when I looked at my early renditions of Gundams and Super Saiyans.
